African Union stands with ECOWAS
High-stakes arm-wrestling over the future of Niger and the cloud of the Economic Community of West African States. The region is divided, but the African Union stands with ECOWAS on the coup d’ etat in Niger. Much anti-Western hate-mongering online, which has the fingerprints of the Wagner group all over it.
Niger is a landlocked country in western Africa on the southern edge of the Sahara desert, surrounded by seven other African states, including heavy-weight countries such as Libya, Chad, and Nigeria.
The African Union further calls for the immediate release of Nigerien President Bazoum and all members of his family and government have been detained with him. This echos the calls for immediate release of Mali officials in 2021, after the coup in that country.
